2020 has become a year of uncertainty. But that doesn’t necessarily spell bad news for app developers. With more businesses going online and one-third of the world’s workforce off work, there are plenty of opportunities to grab and keep people’s attention.
With the right product and a proactive approach to marketing, you can survive and even thrive during the pandemic.
To help you do it, we’ve put together this infographic that showcases the smartphone statistics that matter this year. And in case you don’t have time for the whole thing, we’ve picked out five of the most important numbers for app developers.
1. Almost half of the world’s population owns a smartphone, which means your potential market is bigger than ever before.
2. That growing audience is increasingly global, with emerging economies driving most of the global growth in smartphone ownership. In fact, 75% of all web traffic in India and 60% in Africa is now from smartphones.
3. If you want to take advantage of the Indian market, your best bet is Facebook ads because India has the highest number of Facebook users of any country worldwide.
4. But what kind of apps are people after? Well, 39% of the most used apps are social media apps. And, while you might not be creating the next TikTok, apps with social features do tend to sell better.
5. Whatever it is you create, you can sleep easy in the knowledge that, in 2019, 204 billion apps were downloaded worldwide. Which is almost 30 apps per person, planetwide.
