Memory space on your smartphone is at a premium, so why waste it with pointless apps. Here we detail some of the worst offenders, which in some cases give greater cause for concern.

Fast-charge apps
This is a beautiful concept, but the reality is that no app has the ability to fast charge your phone. Once in possession of this knowledge, you can understand the pointless nature of having a memory-sapping app on your phone that can actually never perform the task that it claims to be able to do.

Yo
The idea of this app is that it enables you to communicate with the people in your contacts with one single word, which is ‘yo’. How you are ever able to communicate something meaningful will be a question that remains unanswered. At best you can annoy a friend for a while, at worst, in an age where the sophistication of messaging apps is reaching new heights, this is one app that is simply taking up valuable space on your smartphone.

Cleaning apps
Although cleaning apps are a good idea in theory, the reality is that the vast majority do not work as well as they claim to, or perform tasks that you could just as easily performed by deleting the contents of your cached data file.

These types of apps are notorious for consuming vast amounts of memory and in many cases bring in the added annoyance on in-app advertising,” cautions Stephen Kramer, a business writer at Draftbeyond and Researchpapersuk.

Hold on
Hold on has to be the most pointless of all games ever invented. The premise is to press the one button provided for as long as is humanly possible. As soon as you let go, your time is recorded on a shared leaderboard. Perhaps it is a quirky idea but as you are walking around your house continuing to press this button it might be necessary to consider exactly why you are doing this. Hold on is not the only pointless game out there by any means, but is certainly representative of a kind of 21st Century human crisis.

Fake activity apps
App stores are awash with apps which allow you to perform what appear to be real-life activities with your phone. From appearing to drink a beer, to your phone seemingly becoming a crackling fireplace or a fan, there is nothing quite as pointless as something that is appearing to do something that is it absolutely not.

Dark or not dark?
It is quite unbelievable to think that there is an app which informs you whether it is dark outside or not. Supposing you have no access to the outside world, this could have some use, but the reality is, it is difficult to conceive a situation where this app could ever be useful.

Tickle me Timmy
It is almost unfathomable that there are a number of apps out there which aim to create an element of human interaction with your phone. In this case, your phone appears to laugh when you touch it, as if it is being tickled. Like so many apps, this can produce some mild amusement the very first time you do it, but the interest will quickly die. Then you have just another pointless app stored on your phone.

Keyboard Apps
The keyboard that comes as a default setting with your phone is perfectly good enough for practically every activity you would ever need to perform on your smartphone. So in reality, downloading a keyboard app is a waste of time. But there is a more sinister aspect here too.

“Third-party keyboard apps are of course able to follow every keystroke that you make, which means passwords. There are very real security concerns about the use of these types of apps, so avoid like the plague,” warns Amber Jones, a team leader at Lastminutewriting and Writinity.

Battery-saving apps
Battery-saving apps by app development company are another example of an idea which works in theory, but in reality is much more successfully performed by doing the job yourself. Everybody knows that the best way to extend your smartphones battery life is by closing unused apps and limiting activity. Simply having another app open to do the job itself is counterproductive.

Useless apps
This may seem to be a ridiculous entry as this whole article is about useless apps. But, one visit to your app store will inform you that there are a number of apps out there which market themselves as being apps that do absolutely nothing. A fitting finale to any list about utterly pointless apps.
